South Regional meeting
Our next COTSSTO South Regional meeting is due to be held at Winchester Hospital 9-11a.m. 28th January 2009 - all welcome. I am planning on holding a Study Day in July 2009. The date and venue are still to be confirmed. Below are the details of meetings/study days held in South Region of COTSSTO for 2007.
A meeting was held on 20th February 2007 at Fareham Reach, Fareham Hampshire. Five people attended. Falls awareness day and the falls guidance document were discussed. Changes due within the COTSSTO committee were discussed and which posts will be vacant. The plans for this years South study day were discussed. Feedback was provided from conference and ideas for next conference. Journal article ‘Hand therapist-led management of mallet finger’ was reviewed.
The south study for COTTSTO was held on the 25th may 2007 at The National Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford. 20 people attended. In the morning we had a presentation on Llizarov Frames and Dynamic Foot Splinting by Rhonwen Hyslop. This was followed by a discussion session and review of current literature on what reduces length of stay? To the end the morning we had a presentation on an Amputee Clinical Case Study by Anne-Marie Van Es. The afternoon consisted of a Discussion Session on Crisis Management, Reduced Staffing and Demand versus Capacity. An expert panel facilitated this and a literature review was carried out. The discussion session was then followed by a south region update by Rachael Eckford. Throughout the day we also had poster presentations during the networking coffee and lunch breaks. A thoroughly enjoyable and positive day was had by all. We plan to hold another study day next year. Please see below a chart showing feedback on attendee's opinion of the day.
A meeting was held on the 14th August 2007 at Basingstoke North Hampshire Hospital. Five people attended the meeting. Update on the COTSSTO committee post changes were provided. Rachael Eckford is now the Public relations officer and Catherine Phillpot is the South Region Representative. Rachael has also stepped down from specialist clinical forum representative and this post is now vacant. The treasurer and committee chair posts are also due to change in January 2008. Feedback was given from the South Study Day and plans for this years conference were also feedback. The article 'Cost and effectiveness of pre and postoperative home physiotherapy for total knee replacement: randomised controlled trail' was reviewed. The next meeting will be held on the 13th November 2007 at Queen Alexandra Hospital at 9:30 a.m.
