The College of Occupational Therapists Specialist Section – Mental Health addresses the diverse needs of the membership by supporting accessible sub-groups and special interest groups.
There are currently four sub-groups within the specialist section of the COT - specialist section - Mental Health. They are the main working environments of mental health occupational therapists' work. These are:
- Community;
- In-patients;
- Forensic;
- Homelessness and substance misuse.
There is a specialist representative post for each of these sub-groups; they meet with the executive committee twice a year where they represent the interests of their group. The vice chair provides a link role for the named leads from any special interest group/s.
Each Sub-group and SIG have aims specific to their grouping. However they carry the overarching aims of :
- Providing a point of contact for the membership with the committee and decision-making processes.
- Promotion of study days related to their specialty.
- Co-ordination of networking to facilitate sharing of good practice and support.
