Research Project: Good practice in occupational therapy with people with learning disabilities
We would like to interview you if you are paid to support people with learning disabilities. We are interested in your views on the input the people you support may have received from occupational therapists.
The College of Occupational Therapists, the professional organisation for occupational therapists in the United Kingdom, has commissioned a piece of research to identify good practice in occupational therapy with people with learning disabilities. An important phase of the research study involves exploring paid carers’ views on occupational therapy for people with learning disabilities. The gathered information will then be used to improve and develop occupational therapy practice. We would be interested in talking to you if:
- you are paid to support people with learning disabilities (for people you are a support worker or other carer)
- one or more of the people you support has had input in the last year from an occupational therapist based in your local Community Team for People with Learning Disabilities
- you feel you may be interested in being interviewed by telephone (for about 30 minutes) about that person’s occupational therapy.
The study has received research ethics approval from both the College of Occupational Therapists and the NHS National Research Ethics Service. For more detailed information:
If, after reading the Participant Information Sheet, you wish to participate in a telephone interview towards the end of this year please:
- e-mail Alison Lillywhite at cotsspld@hotmail.co.uk to let her know you want to be involved
- download, complete and return the Consent Form
Please e-mail Alison Lillywhite if you have any queries or telephone her on 01733 746345.
The Clinical Effectiveness, Research and Education group (CERE) is concerned with:
- Feeding back on research pertinent to Occupational Therapy in Learning Disabilities
- Making links between OTPLD and educational establishments
- Raising the profile of Learning Disabilities in education
- Directing those involved in research towards services and establishments available in assisting projects
- Raising awareness of ethics providing guidance
CERE have developed a Research and Education Strategy in conjunction with COT.
