Living well through activity in care homes - the toolkit
College of Occupational Therapists
This practical resource is designed to equip care homes with ideas and materials to provide a service focused on residents’ needs, preferences and activity choices, and to support residents, their family and friends and care home staff to shape the life of the home. In addition, much of the content can be used to review and evidence aspects of care such as personalisation, supporting dignity and wellbeing, and integration into the community.
Sections aimed at care home owners and managers highlight how a service that offers and evidences support to residents to participate in everyday activities will achieve positive regulatory inspection outcomes and meet local authority commissioning objectives.
Materials to support and sustain a positive change in culture include:
- Suggestions on how to record evidence and audit for benchmarking and re-evaluation
- Integration of activities into care planning
- Action planning and risk enablement plans.
