Extract from an Interview with an Occupational Therapist, Crawley Hospital, West Sussex
How did you first hear about occupational therapy?
"I stumbled into occupational therapy through my mother
being admitted to a hospital and an OT wandering into the
ward. My mother didn't recognise the uniform and being nosey
she turned round and said 'who are you and what do you do?'
On having the explanation she thought I would be something
I would be interested in and she came home and told me. I
thought that sounds quite interesting so I went along and
arranged a visit into an OT department at the hospital, and
spent some time with an OT and found it absolutely fascinating.
So I therefore decided at about fifteen or sixteen years of
age to do that."
