Background
The Health Professions Council (HPC) approves occupational therapy programmes in the UK. The College of Occupational Therapists believes that students need to be educated above the minimum threshold required by the HPC in order for students to demonstrate fitness for profession. To this end the College has established its own accreditation process with the support of higher education institutions.
Currently all occupational therapy programmes in the UK are accredited by COT.
Benefits of studying on a COT accredited programme
- Professional indemnity insurance over while on placement for the duration of your study
- Access to advice from UNISON
- Entitlement to reduced professional membership of the British Association of Occupational Therapists on graduation
- Access to COT publications and services that support educators and students through their programme of study. This helps to produce well-informed graduates with a wide range of knowledge and information about practicing as an occupational therapist.
- Opportunity to participate in the annual conference of the COT and share in national and international professional developments in education and practice.
- Instant international recognition of programme and HEI by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT). Graduates will own a degree that is recognised by any country belonging to that federation.
