Professional Membership (PM)
You hold a professional qualification recognised by Council or have completed a period of training or actual practice as an occupational therapist as prescribed by Council.
Discounted Professional Membership (DPM) - 25% discount for new and first time Professional Members
You are a newly qualified student or are a first time member and eligible for professional membership.
Associate Membership (AM)
You should be engaged in work within the recognised definition of occupational therapy and be supervised in this work by a person who is eligible for professional membership. You are ineligible for registration with the Health Professions Council.
Discounted Associate Membership (DAM) - 25% discount first time Associate Members
You are applying for associate membership for the first time and are eligible for Associate Membership.
Solely Self-Employed in Private Practice (PP)
You should fulfil the criteria for professional membership but you be wholly self-employed for all of your work. In this category you will receive full professional benefits but will not be eligible for any industrial relations support through BAOT/UNISON. You will also need to take out your own professional indemnity insurance.
Retired Membership (RM)
You have retired at statutory pensionable age or through any form of early retirement recognised by employers and do not engage in any alternative paid occupation. UNISON membership is not included.
Overseas Membership (OVS)
You hold a professional qualification recognised by Council or have completed a period of training or actual practice as an occupational therapist as prescribed by Council and not reside in the UK. You will be eligible for Professional Indemnity Insurance anywhere in the world with the exception of Canada and the United States of America. However, if you act as a private practitioner outside the United Kingdom you will need to arrange your own Professional Indemnity cover. Cover for such work is excluded for overseas members from the Group Professional Indemnity Policy.
Student Membership (STU)
You are enrolled on an UK occupational therapy pre-registration programme approved by BAOT/COT. Students can register and activate their membership online via the National Student Database (www.cot.org.uk/nsd).
