Downloading PDF documents
The application packs are in 'Portable Document Format' (PDF) which can be
read using Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you already have Adobe Acrobat Reader
on your machine then the document will open automatically when you click
on it. If it doesn't then click on the image at the right to obtain a
free copy.
Acrobat 6
All new PDF documents will be created using the Adobe Acrobat Professional 6 software, and we are working towards optimising older documents for this format too. Acrobat 6 creates smaller documents which take less time to download, and are also easier for disabled users to read and fill in.
All PDF documents on the site can be opened using Adobe Acrobat Reader version 4 or later, but they will look significantly better and be easier to fill in if you download the latest version of the software.
Download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader from the Adobe website. The software is free to download. If you are not authorised to download software on your machine, please ask your IT or network support staff for help.
Filling in a PDF form
Forms on the COT site are often in the PDF format. There are two ways to fill in a PDF form:
1. Complete the PDF document electronically and then print it out and post the forms to the College. If you choose to do it this way, there are a couple of points to remember:
- To avoid incurring costs while you are connected to the Internet, save the blank form (by clicking on the save icon at the top left-hand corner of the document) and then open it up, complete it and print it out.
- It is not possible to save the completed PDF document. If you attempt to do this, you will lose the information.
- To copy text from Word, select the text by holding down the mouse button and dragging the pointer across the text. Press Control and C to copy (Power and C on a Macintosh). In Acrobat, click in the form field where you wish to place the text and press Control and V (Power and V on a Macintosh). To copy all the text in a field or on a page, use Control and A (Power and A for Macintosh).
2. Print out the whole pack and complete the hard copy forms in the normal way (either by typing or and word processing).
Important notes
- Electronic signatures are unacceptable. Application forms must be signed by hand.
- It is your responsibility to check the layout and presentation of printed forms before posting the application.
