Keynote address: Making the most of living

The emphasis on palliative care and managing HIV has shifted dramatically over recent years. Hear how two of the country’s leading players in palliative care and HIV/AIDS have instigated and responded to these changes and how they have led to improved quality of life and care for service users. Speakers include Sam Turner, Development Manager of the National Council for Palliative Care, and Jackie Redding, Associate Director of Service Delivery and Development, Terrence Higgins Trust. This session led by Jackie Turnpenney - AHP lead for Manchester and Cheshire Cancer network, and member of the Cancer Action Team North will explain how OTs can raise the awareness of their profession in the current climate of cuts and post freezes. It will also focus on the importance of OT within multi-disciplinary teams.

Keynote address: Giving palliative care a voice

Having a voice for palliative care and being heard is a huge challenge in the UK, particularly since society has its own perception of what this means. Professor, the Baroness Finlay of Llandaff is responsible for the Palliative Care Bill, which was introduced in the House of Lords in April 2007.
Hear how she has championed the country’s palliative care agenda, and what you can do to ensure occupational therapy fits into this agenda. This session will also include the opportunity to question a panel of experts on giving palliative care a voice.
The panel will include Professor Jenny Butler, Professor of Occupational Therapy; Jill Cooper, editor of Occupational therapy in oncology and palliative care and Louise Cusack, founder member of the Specialist Section – HIV/AIDS, Oncology, Palliative Care.
