Lifelong Learning for Occupational Therapists

There are a number of government initiatives across the UK that are encouraging and driving staff development, recognising that occupational therapists (OTs), amongst other allied health professions (AHPs), should have the opportunity to learn and participate in continuing professional development (CPD) through a co-ordinated approach in order to deliver high quality services. There is a drive for new ways of working with role redesign and the need for extension of multi-professional roles.

There are various roles within the profession of occupational therapy that are fairly 'new' relative to the age of the profession. Clinical specialists and consultant posts are examples.

More and more exciting and rewarding career path options are available to OTs today. To help identify these pathways and provide a structure from which to better understand the routes OTs can take, the College of Occupational Therapists plans to develop a post-qualifying framework for OT education and development.

Stay tuned! We'll keep you posted on its development!
