February/March

It is hoped that work will commence on the restoration of Red Cross Gardens, subject to funding being confirmed by the Heritage Lottery Fund. We are awaiting a public announcement of a successful bid having been made.

The College is invited to fund an item/items, e.g., a reproduction bench, a reproduction drinking fountain in Elizabeth Casson’s name. The work is unlikely to be completed before spring 2005, but various events associated with the garden including the official opening will be used to celebrate Dr Casson’s connection with the site and its ‘occupation for health’ focus.

A short booklet will be produced with a biography and photographs of Dr. Casson’s life to support the year. Anthony Brewerton, an Oxford Brookes University Librarian, is setting up a website. January’s Occupational Therapy News will showcase the year. The January issue will use the new pencil portrait of Dr. Casson as a front cover by kind permission of the Casson Trust and the artist’s estate.

Investigations to have a rose named in her honour are ongoing, but as yet have not proved successful.

It may be possible to have a ‘blue plaque’ approved for installation on the Hall.
