The Challenge
52 yr old patient had been living with chronic back pain for years. The patient was unable to bend down to their feet and so had to rely on family members to assist with donning underwear, trousers and socks. They could only wear flip flop shoes too.
The Change
I demonstrated a technique to don pants and trousers using a helping hand and long shoehorn, enabling them to put on socks with a sock aid and to take off with a helping hand. I discussed stretchy and curly laces and how to use a shoe horn properly.
The Impact
The patient was overjoyed, they could put their own underwear on and didn't need to ask family to help with dressing, after all these years. They also had options with footwear and could wear appropriate footwear for the different seasons, with socks
