The Challenge
To provide occupation and stimulation to patients on acute medical and frailty wards, including patients with dementia and those who have been inpatients for long periods of time.
The Change
I liaised with the onsite nursery to create monthly nursery visits to enable patients on acute medical & frailty wards to spend time away from the ward environment, participating in craft activities and spending time with the pre-school children.
The Impact
Patients were more motivated and energised, the groups gave them a purpose and a role while spending time with the children. One lady said to me "It was nice to feel needed while I helped that little girl with her picture".
