The Challenge
Having more restrictive leave and no visitors during the Covid-19 pandemic means limited access to shops for essential toiletries or simple luxuries like snacks for our patients on the mental health assessment ward.
The Change
Occupational therapy set up a system for once a week ‘shop runs’. This included creating a checklist and safe audit system to ensure everyone was given the opportunity to shop as well as participating in the shop.
The Impact
Patients have access to essential and luxuries that mean their time in the ward is more comfortable. OT has assessed individual's budgeting skills, memory, motivation, self-appraisal & planning skills which has influenced the care and treatment plan.
