The Challenge
Whilst working on an older adult mental health ward a patient with dementia was experiencing significant distress and was agitated and aggressive towards anyone who approached her and she was spending her time lying on the floor in her room.
The Change
I spent several sessions with this patient lying on the floor so I could see the world from her point of view in order to try to understand her behaviour and improve communication with this patient.
The Impact
Over the course of sessions the patient begun to talk calmly to me which I believe was because she felt less threatened as I was on her level and her behaviour began to improve as we were able to better understand her perspective and needs.
