The Challenge
Restrictions to hospital visiting across Older People’s Services led to increased feelings of loneliness and isolation. Joint sessions with relatives previously used to gauge function or to help facilitate rehabilitation had also stopped.
The Change
iPads were used to facilitate Zoom virtual visiting between patients and relatives, enabling them to see and speak to their relative, observe rehabilitation sessions and enabling the therapist to observe the environment and/or furniture used at home.
The Impact
The impact is palpable - smiles, laughter, tears of joy & sadness. We’ve given comfort when needed, interpreted for some who have struggled to hear & had a laugh with those who are new to the screen! Emotional for all, but incredibly rewarding & fun
