The Challenge
Reasoning with a senior charge nurse that a patient who had previously fallen no longer required a chair alarm as they had been deemed independently mobile using a walking aid. She was frustrated as her movement was restricted.
The Change
The chair sensor was removed as patient was due to return home as soon as her home care package was instated. A change in culture and attitude was demonstrated as restricting engagement in occupation could be viewed as impacting on right of choice.
The Impact
Patient's frustration/agitation was greatly reduced and she was able to engage in occupations to the benefit of her overall wellbeing.
