The Challenge
I was on placement in a splints department and had to fit a patient with a moulded foot splint. Due to the severity of the foot ulceration the splint had to be made with a green moulded material but he was getting married and did not want to wear it.
The Change
The patient stated he was getting married that weekend and did not want to wear the splint to his wedding due to the colour. We could not make the splint another colour, so I sat with the patient and coloured the splint in with black marker pen.
The Impact
The patient cried, he was so happy. He stated he would be comfortable now at his wedding because he would wear the splint now it was black. Due to this it allowed for offloading of the foot ulceration whilst letting the patient enjoy his wedding.
