The Challenge
Jill* experienced chronically high levels of anxiety particularly in social situations. Jill* was becoming increasingly isolated and socially avoidant; she was also neglecting her self-care. Following ASD diagnosis she began 1:1 intervention with OT
The Change
Sensory processing assessment identified a pattern of extreme sensory sensitivity impacting significantly on Jill’s* daily function, participation, mood and anxiety levels. Intervention focused on education and strategies for achieving regulation.
The Impact
Jill* was able to incorporate sensory strategies into her daily routine which lead to reduced anxiety levels and improvements in function, participation and mood. Jill* and her family had a better understanding of her ASD, sensory and support needs.
