The Challenge
I am on placement in a school for children with learning disabilities and severe physical conditions. They are all non-verbal using Makaton or no communication at present, with a handful having limited communication.
The Change
I wanted to provide a platform the children to express their gratitude and promote positive mental health. I asked the children to pick a person, playing 'Guess Who' for yes and no answers, and we wrote a thank you note and decorated it.
The Impact
The children were able to give the notes to parents, teachers, and friends, thanking them for their support. It was the first time some had been thanked by the children. The children smiled throughout!
