The Challenge
Patient with a lumbar fracture was required to wear a spinal brace for approx 6 weeks, due to limitations with movement due to brace he was unable to manage his personal hygiene when using the toilet. He was frustrated at this impact on his dignity
The Change
We discussed how he could make this easier and decided to try a bottom wiper, this allowed him to reach independently without needing to ask his wife or nursing staff to assist
The Impact
Patient was then able to manage his own toilet hygiene, giving him independence, control and dignity.
