The Challenge
Amy* was paraplegic following a road traffic accident 20 years ago and needed a carpal tunnel release. She was referred as part of the pre-assessment pathway. The challenge was to keep her functionally able and length of stay as short as possible.
The Change
By involving the social services Occupational Therapy team specialising in single handed care and the hospital Social Work team we were all able to assess Amy* before she came into hospital in her own home and predict her care and equipment needs.
The Impact
Amy only stayed in hospital for 24 hours a great success story. She had direct payments set up for her own carers which I was able to train and equipment that meant she said as functionally able as possible post surgery. Amy* was absolutely delighted
