The Challenge
Julie* has chronic delusional disorder sometimes triggered by misinterpretation of visual stimuli. She thought reflections in the window in her living room door to the hallway were ghosts. This caused her to be distressed.
The Change
A blind was fitted over the window which could be lowered at night to prevent the reflections but raised during the day allowing Julie* to see her carers before they entered her living room. This prevented them from startling her.
The Impact
Using her walking frame, Julie* was able to walk the short distance to the blind and raise and lower it herself giving her greater control over her environment. A week later her distress had reduced and she was no longer fearful.
