The Challenge
Sarah is a young adult with learning disabilities and autism, her father sadly he passed away unexpectedly. She was struggling to adapt and integrate into a new day care environment and her mother was feeling the strain of being her main carer.
The Change
Education for day care staff and adaptation to her routine was key to changing staffs assumptions and responses.
Sarah started her day with 'rough and tumble play' and 1:1 intensive communication before being integrated into the larger groups.
The Impact
Sarah enjoyed group cooking, participated in ten pin bowling and went to the park with her new friends in day care. Her mother shared it was a pleasure to take her shopping without her knocking things off the shelves and calling out all the time.
