The Challenge
Establish effective management of the occupational therapy duty system within a busy social work department to address organisation issues, limited clarity on what is an appropriate duty task, increased workload and work related stress.
The Change
A meeting was held with the occupational therapy staff and team leader to establish a way forward including:
- establishing a referral criteria
- weekly meetings arranged to discuss cases and divide the workload
- weekly set duty day for all staff
The Impact
Increased confidence prioritising referrals.
More effective communication between colleagues.
Better work consistency. More time for staff members to work on their own case load.
A fairer and more stream lined service for service users.
