The Challenge
Mother was unable to get her daughter to school as she was unable to push her daughter's wheelchair onto the school transport due to her back pain, number of steps and high threshold at the front entrance of her flat. The back exit was inaccessible.
The Change
I advocated for the mother through working in collaboration with the senior occupational therapist and the housing officer. The housing officer agreed and provided mother a set of keys to allow access through the back exit which had a permanent ramp
The Impact
Mother was able to get her child out of her flat independently and onto the school transport with ease. This empowered the mother, improved the child's school attendance, participation in school based activities and the child's quality of life.
