The Challenge
A service user had lost touch with family during childhood. When contact was made by a family member it was unclear how the service user would respond to being reunited or if they would want this because of their mental health difficulties.
The Change
I put together a personalised social story for them, spending time going through this with them and they wanted to meet. We made a plan for a visit which had to be structured, this could have been the difference between success or not.
The Impact
A meeting was arranged and it was amazing to see part of the family reunited after all those year (many decades). It was very moving and it was a privilege to be a part of such a special time in their life.
