The Challenge
My patient reported she couldn’t get in and out of bed at night herself while in hospital to go to the toilet. This was making her very anxious and fearful of ‘an accident’ and being thought of as incontinent overnight.
The Change
Discussing her usual routine at home and identifying which side of the bed she normally used. Turns out for 70 years she had always got in on the opposite side. Changed side of the bed for getting in and out while in hospital.
The Impact
The patient is independent with bed transfers from usual side used. She is independent with overnight toileting and has reduced anxiety levels.
