The Challenge
H had been a patient on an eating disorder unit for several months. Prior to admission she had given up work as a baker, which she loved, as she felt her cakes were not 'perfect' enough. H wasn't in the baking club as she didn't feel able to eat cake
The Change
Several individual sessions with H where she produced cakes for staff members to share - these cakes were deliberately 'imperfect' looking but she got to see staff enjoy the things she had made. She started baking for pleasure on home leave also.
The Impact
H began to understand that the things she made were enjoyed by others even if she did not feel that they were perfect. H progressed on to join the ward baking group, and started eating the things she had baked for the first time in years.
