The Challenge
Jo has learning disabilities and challenging behaviours. She could only use 1 hand at a time and needed help to put on her shoes. When staff bent down to assist her and invaded her personal space, they became vulnerable and she often kicked them.
The Change
A course of Ayres sensory integration therapy helped to improve Jo's concentration and enabled her to use two hands together.
The Impact
Jo could then put on her own shoes and there was no need for staff to invade her personal space reducing her anxiety.
