The Challenge
Sally has a severe learning disability, autism and has had various specialist placements because of behaviours described as challenging. Sally moved to her own flat with a 24-hour support team who wanted advice on how to do more with Sally.
The Change
OT observed how Sally was being supported. Collected more information using a sensory screening tool. Tried some activities with her at home. Put all the information together in an ‘engagement profile’ developed jointly with Sally’s team and family.
The Impact
Sally is involved in lots of different activities at home and in her community. Staff understand how to engage Sally at the right level and are confident in doing this. It's included in her PBS plan and two years on she is still in her own flat!
