The Challenge
Following a stroke, patients can have a cognitive impairment and become disorientated during hospital admission which can be unsettling for the patient and their family.
The Change
I implemented orientation clocks at bedsides for patients. I review this daily with patients to provide a coping strategy and orientate the patients daily to start their rehab journey to improve their cognition and orientation.
The Impact
Over time orientation has improved as they use the clock as a coping mechanism, improving their cognition, motivation and mood.
