The Challenge
A young girl with a significant learning disability recently lost her grandma and had withdrawn from all activities and was displaying more challenging behaviour within her family home, particularly around accessing public transport.
The Change
Time was spent with the lady and her family to develop rapport and we started graded exposure around accessing buses, working with the local bus service to enable her to spend some time on a stationary bus at the depot building up to short rides.
The Impact
This lady began going out with her family and accessing respite again. They could also employ a family friend as a formal carer who she could also go out with. Both the lady and her families quality of life and relationships significantly improved.
