The Challenge
I worked with a client with a diagnosis of MS of 30 years & was being cared for in a residential home. They were bed-bound and lacked independence in daily activities due to not having access to appropriate equipment. Depression was a consequence.
The Change
A specialist wheelchair was oredered but a lack of communication caused delay & unacceptable impact on the client. The mental health need and risk of occupational deprivation was highlighted to expedite the order. Eating and drinking aids implemented
The Impact
Independence with eating & drinking improved their wellbeing. Access to the specialist wheelchair meant they were no longer bed bound, mobilising independently & enabled access to meaningful occupation. Subsequently, depression no longer reported.
