The Challenge
*Marina is 30 and has a learning disability. Marina and her mum do not speak English. Mum supports Marina with all aspects of daily living and does not believe Marina has the capacity to learn new skills. Mum identified road safety as a priority.
The Change
The OT assessed Marina. Visual prompts were provided to aid Marina learn the sequence of task steps - using a pelican crossing. OT taught Marina and mum to cross the road safely.
The Impact
Marina has been able to increase her participation when crossing the road. Her mum has reported; "I know now, Marina can learn new things".
