The Challenge
Sam suffered a stroke and was unable to walk. His mood was very low and he was reluctant to take part in any physiotherapy or occupational therapy sessions. He was becoming more withdrawn and spending longer times in bed during the day.
The Change
The Occupational Therapist arranged the loan of a wheelchair to Sam on the ward. Sam was now able to get off the ward with his family for a coffee or to explore around the hospital grounds, without having to rely on staff.
The Impact
Sam’s mood improved and he engaged more with therapy. He spent more time out of bed and was soon able to return home walking with a zimmer frame to continue his recovery.
