The Challenge
A person in ICU on haemodialysis was unable to transfer out of his bed due to necrotic feet and decline in function. Their wish was to be able to sit out in a wheelchair in order to get married in the hospital.
The Change
I assessed the transfers & sitting tolerance with my colleagues using the hoist. The time spent sitting out in the wheelchair was increased until their wedding day. They were able to sit out in a standard wheelchair and get out of the ICU with family
The Impact
They were able to sit in the wheelchair and able to attend their own wedding. This had a massive impact on their wellbeing as this fulfilled their wishes. The person had a great smile on his face & was very thankful for the occupational therapy input
