The Challenge
Upon discharge from prison, Brian*, who is plus size and whose mobility fluctuates from wheelchair to crutches, needed to be re-housed to an adapted property, with a care package.
The Change
Occupational therapy worked collaboratively with the probation service, housing and homeless services to source a property, but with none available we explored adapting a property to provide space for a plus size wheelchair, widened doors, ramping and a level access shower.
The Impact
Brian now lives in an adapted bungalow and can maintain his independence, safety and control over his day-to-day living. This has had a significant impact on his wellbeing and rehabilitation back into the community after prison.
