The Challenge
Joe* damaged the headrest of his wheelchair regularly. When it was broken he couldn’t go into the day centre and he couldn’t travel on the bus. Joe and his mum were very stressed when he had to stay at home, the daily routine was essential for him.
The Change
The OT issued a second headrest for Joe to use in an emergency. OT added Joe to the wheelchair clinic list which ensured his wheelchair was reviewed regularly by OT.
The Impact
Joe did not have unnecessary disruption to his daily routine, he was more settled. Joe’s mum had peace of mind and felt reassured that Joe would not be excluded from day care. Day care staff built a good rapport with OT and contributed to clinics.
