The Challenge
Lady with Dementia very confused and disorientated & spent her day walking in the ward in tears looking for her Mum. She was unable to be reassured & was becoming exhausted due to walking & was at risk of falling. She asked me for something to cuddle
The Change
I was able to buy a cuddly toy dog, I knew from conversations with her she used to own a pet dog she loved. Her face lit up she started to stroke the toy and named him Paddy and tucked him in her jumper. She was calmer and able to stop and rest.
The Impact
The lady now joins in with ward activities - breakfast group & cooking bacon with Paddy tucked in her jumper. She is more relaxed, less anxious and was reassured by holding and looking after Paddy.
