The Challenge
Elderly care wards are not close to the hospital shop. Some patients missed their daily newspaper and some patients have no visitors.
The Change
Catching the bus to work I hatched the idea to bring the free newspapers on board to work for the patients. Thought it would be a great start to my day and would provide a free occupation based tool.
The Impact
We do our free newspaper round now with reading of the headlines to include our elderly with reduced vision. The papers promote orientation, bilateral activity, initiate conversation and even have a puzzle page. Plus they make great paper garlands!
