Rotational Occupational Therapist

The Challenge
The identity of the profession was at risk of being lost by defining ourselves daily with 2 letters: “OT”. Other professionals and students were introducing me to patients and families as an “OT” obscuring my title and role.
The Change
I continually emphasise and use the full title “Occupational Therapy/ist” to all professionals and stakeholders in conversation and on the phone. I diligently sign off all notes and referrals as an “Occupational Therapist”.
The Impact
Occupational Therapy colleagues now use the full terms with colleagues, patients and their families. Professionals are more aware of my presence and role on the ward and therefore actively seek my input to create appropriate discharge plans.
