The Challenge
A lady, having recently been transferred to a stroke rehabilitation ward, was undergoing an initial therapy assessment. One of the symptoms from the stroke was expressive aphasia: along with this and the change in environment the lady was at unease.
The Change
The lady had a 'This is me' booklet. Highlighting her likes and dislikes, preferences, her family and support network, hobbies and music preferences.
The Impact
With all the information gained, around the person, their environment and occupations, the therapy staff were able to build a therapeutic relationship and therapeutic communication - building a feeling of trust for the patient and easing her anxiety.
