The Challenge
A lady with a severe learning disability and mobility issues (wheelchair user) was unable to go out with her family on shopping trips to town as she was unable to use the toilets as she required a hoist to be lifted onto the toilet.
The Change
I identified local shopping centres that had changing facilities with an inbuilt ceiling track hoist. We completed a hoist and sling assessment in the shopping centre which allowed myself to provide her with the right slings to use for that hoist.
The Impact
The lady was now able to go shopping and have quality time with all of her family including meals out. She did not have to be left out or stay at home with a carer during these times which meant this reduced the amount of paid carer hours too!
