The Challenge
A patient on a low secure forensic ward had low self-esteem caused by his weight and social anxiety which was impacting on him transitioning to community living.
The Change
I created links with mental health community football projects. Then escorted him to training, joining in with each session and giving encouragement. He then began playing alongside me in the team.
The Impact
He has lost weight and feels like a valued member of a team. He is now confident about transitioning into commmunity life and can continue attending the football session once discharged. As a result his social anxiety has reduced greatly.
