The Challenge
A person I worked with was experiencing low self-esteem and poor self-worth, as a result they disengaged with their routine and became withdrawn. This was unusual for him, typically maintaining a good structure including groups and 1:1s.
The Change
To grade their re-engagement I facilitated a baking session off the ward, they had not previously baked but was keen to learn. I arranged for the clinical team to surprise the service user by attending a tea party, having the cake he had made.
The Impact
Improved belief in self and increased confidence from the positive feedback he received from his team. He began to re-engage in their weekly routine and identified new occupations to try, now baking often on the ward for peers.
