The Challenge
Fred* had severe learning disabilities and autism and spent most of his time repetitively banging (and eventually breaking) the bathroom fittings in his residential home.
The Change
I advised Fred's staff team how to engage him in sensory-based activities, gave them lots of activity ideas to match his interests and abilities, and helped them choose equipment to make a multi-sensory room that Fred and other residents could use
The Impact
Fred stopped damaging his bathroom and enjoyed interacting with staff during his new activities. Staff reported they felt more confident supporting Fred and also that activity levels in the home had improved for all the residents living there.
