The Challenge
Robert* had chronic schizophrenia with severe motor retardation and poverty of speech, sitting in his room all day, responding to questions in monosyllables and seemingly no interest in his current day-to-day life.
The Change
Through exploring past interests we discovered he had enjoyed playing badminton and we introduced him to the sports group.
The Impact
Weekly badminton stimulated an interest in life improving motor & cognitive skills. He showed energy & enthusiasm, running for shots, determined to win, smiling when he beat me. This meant greater engagement in all areas of Activities of Daily Living.
