Dear members,
A month ago we could never have imagined that today we would be in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic. I know that many of you, our members, are working flat out in extremely difficult circumstances to care for and support people through this crisis. You have my, and everyone at RCOT’s heartfelt thanks for all you have done and all you will continue to do in the coming days and weeks. You provide an incredible service that’s never been more essential than it is today.
We are here to support you to be the best you can be, and that’s really important, now more than ever. I know one of the pressing concerns right now is Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Hopefully you will have seen that last week, as part of the Allied Health Professions Federation (AHPF), we wrote to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care to demand clarity on the ongoing situation regarding healthcare workers and their access to PPE. We have also today released a statement on PPE as well as provided updated guidance.
On our website you will also find a comprehensive set of frequently asked questions. We’re reviewing and updating these on a daily basis to make sure you have access to the latest advice and resources. I strongly encourage you to check these FAQs regularly and keep up to date through our social media channels, particularly on Twitter @theRCOT.
While you are out there giving all of your time and energy and focusing on supporting others through this crisis, I urge you to make sure you take time to take care of yourself. As occupational therapists we spend so much time focusing on other people’s needs, but this crisis is a marathon not a sprint, so it’s important to ensure you can go the distance. Please look at the advice we’ve prepared and make time to put some measures in place to look after yourself.
I hope you know that we are here, at your side, supporting you through this extremely tough time. You have our respect and utmost gratitude for everything you do. Please take care of yourself so that you can be there for the people who rely on you, the people you serve and your families.
