It’s a day to understand, recognise and celebrate the fundamental role AHPs have in transforming health, care and wellbeing for patients and citizens.
Suzanne Rastrick, Chief Allied Health Professions Officer for NHS England
Our profession often sees us working with other AHPs to deliver the compassionate, well managed and person centred care occupational therapy strives for.
That’s why we’re taking today to celebrate our AHP colleagues from the other 13 professions.
We encourage you to check out the important work the other AHP bodies do and consider ways we can better network and integrate our practices.

What’s the theme this year?
‘AHPs in the right place, at the right time, with the right skills’.
This follows the publication of the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan and was suggested by NHS England.
The theme gives us a focus on how we can come together as AHPs to deliver successful outcomes for those we work with.
Scotland
This year, in Scotland, the themes are ‘Celebrate, Inspire, Appreciate and Connect'.
These themes give you the opportunity to cheer on those who work in other AHPs, celebrate those who deliver services seven days a week and reflect on how we can protect our mental health.
How do I get involved?
On social media
Keep a look out for the hashtag #AHPsDay on X (formerly Twitter), to see the exciting events taking place on the day that celebrate the power of AHPs.
In Scotland you can follow @NESnmahp on X (formerly Twitter) to see what’s happening across Scotland for AHPs day and use the hashtag, #AHPsScot.
Via events
The Chief Allied Health Professions Officer (CAHPO) will be delivering a live address to the AHP workforce at 9.30am, Friday 13 October 2023. Plans for both the CAHPO office celebrations, and local and regional events are being shared on the established AHPs’ Day network on FutureNHS.
You could:
- have a virtual get together to share and celebrate all your successes
- share how you are inspiring our future workforce or how you are offering new and innovative models of practice placements
- just say thank you and reflect on how we look after our own health and wellbeing and the people we work with
- consider what relationships and conversations you need to be engaging in to plug AHPs into your day-to-day
- share success and join the dots for those outside the AHP professions.
How are we working with other AHPs currently?
We often work closely with other AHPs to ensure occupational therapy remains connected and at the forefront of professional practice. We want to give you opportunities to network and feel confident that you and other AHP workers are sharing best-practices.
Principles of practice-based learning

Our Head of Education, Carolyn Hay, captures the spirit of AHPs Day best when talking about the principles of practice-based learning:
In beginning this collaboration, we recognised that coming together with the CSP made us stronger – so much so we included that in the title of the document. To join with a further eight AHP professional bodies is just brilliant! We are stronger together and we all recognise that.
Carolyn Hay, RCOT Head of Education.
Happy AHPs Day to all our members and AHP colleagues!
